Four Freedoms Memorial

The Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Memorial, a symbol of the four essential freedoms articulated by President Roosevelt in 1941, is located near the historic smallpox hospital at the southern end of Roosevelt Island in New York City. This memorial, a creation of architect Louis Kahn, represents a significant historical and cultural landmark. Pato and his team created the park’s art program as a means of enhancing engagement with the public and media.

The goal of this program was to establish a foundational framework for an art initiative that echoes the fundamental principles and ideals of the FDR Four Freedoms Park. This initiative focuses on showcasing emerging artists whose work features meaningful and thought-provoking themes.
